History of our Ladder Truck
In 1990 the Roosevelt Fire District extended it’s capability of adding a ladder truck to the service complement in the District. The City of Poughkeepsie Fire Department purchased a new ladder truck in 1988 and was having difficulty housing their reserve ladder , a 1972 American Lafrance 100’ Rear Admiral. In a breakthrough arrangement to even today’s standards, Roosevelt Chief John Green and City of Poughkeepsie Chief Jim Davison agreed to house “Ladder 3” at Roosevelt and allow us to run it when then weren’t using it. If Poughkeepsie have a need for the vehicle, they would just come get it or Captain Mike Brower would just walk from his house and drive it into the City. This arrangement continued until Roosevelt received a free ladder truck in 1994. Ironically, the 1988 ladder that Poughkeepsie bought to create this original shared service was bought by Roosevelt 16 years later in 2004. It is always important to mention that the City of Poughkeepsie and Roosevelt have always had a great working relationship, with Roosevelt providing station coverage during fires in Poughkeepsie with an engine and ladder for the last 20 years.
